FHWA-NHI-130053 Bridge Inspection Refresher Training

Description

This course provides refresher training on the safety inspection of in-service highway bridges. The completion of this course fulfills the training requirements of the NBIS (23 CFR 650.309) for an FHWA-approved comprehensive training course. Updated in 2022, the course features improvements in format and content including curriculum on the application of the SNBI and AASHTO element level condition ratings, and updated activities that maximize participant engagement throughout the course. The topics covered include current events and publications; planning and preparing for a bridge inspection; bridge materials; documenting bridge inspection data; characteristics and inspection of decks, superstructures, bearings, substructures, culverts, and waterways; advanced inspection methods and bridge inspection reporting. 

Participant Prerequisite Requirement: All participants must have previously successfully completed the FHWA-NHI-130055 or 130056 course for participation in this course and must send a course completion certificate bearing their name to bsces@engineers.org in advance of the course.

Registration Deadline: Friday, August 15, 2025

Registration Fees: $1,450 Members, $1,810 Non-Members

Registration fee includes course materials, continental breakfast, breaks, and lunch.

Information/Registration: Attendance for this program is limited to 30 participants. Reservations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served, paid registration basis. Payment must be received with registration to secure a slot. Register to attend this course and pay by credit card online by clicking Register. To register online for an event at the BSCES member rate you must login or enter the email associated with your ASCE membership. You can also register for this event by email, fax, or mail. To do so, download and complete a BSCES Event Registration Form and follow the submission instructions. Individuals who attempt to register after the course is closed will be added to a waiting list. Cancellations or no shows after August 1, 2025 will be billed.
