Navigating subsurface utility risks during project development can involve applying a combination of strategies, including detailed due diligence, coordination with stakeholders, and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE). This presentation provides an overview of commonly utilized methods to address subsurface utility risks during the due diligence and design development project phases, including SUE, and discusses project considerations for implementing these methods. These considerations include the sensitivity of the proposed scope to subsurface utility conditions and associated risks, cost, and other considerations. The presentation includes project examples which examine the implementation of risk-mitigating strategies and associated effects on the project design.
